Maggie Hoyles - CEO
Maggie, founder and CEO of downtown, is the brains behind the operation and has a drive for business that is unheard of. With her passion for start-ups and bringing people together, she wanted to create a platform that integrates both. Maggie will never cease to inspire you with her business ideas, knowledge, and resilience.
Maggie studied Archeology at Memorial University and has been involved in multiple business ventures through the MUN Centre for Entrepreneurship and Genesis Centre in St. John's, NL. She also runs a small local business, 'The Singing Bowl,' in which she hosts both public and private sound bath meditation events. Maggie enjoys staying connected to the local start-up scene and transfers her passion for business to her children, immersing them in the world of entrepreneurship. Maggie also enjoys running, pole dancing, reading, playing guitar, and adventures with her two boys. Her only flaw is getting upset when someone interrupts during her favourite song…READ THE ROOM PEOPLE!!!
Beth Ivany - COO
Beth, founder and COO of downtown, will blow you away with her ability to be a team player whilst being a strong leader. She can deliver an element of realism while keeping things light-hearted and playful. Her vivacious yet direct personality is the glue that keeps this team together. When she's not busy being the life of the party, you can find her pitching ideas in the elevators and doing work at one of her favourite local coffee shops.
Beth has a background in retail management with a focus in hosting and facilitating community outreach events, and is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women's & Gender Studies online through Athabasca University. She has a passion for all things business-related and has always aspired to be an entrepreneur. Her hobbies include fitness, playing piano, thrift and consignment shopping, listening to podcasts, and watching 'Elevator Pitch' on YouTube. Her only flaw is getting angry when she does not get her food on time...#dontmakeherhangry
